TRUE SUSTAINABILITY

COLD MAY

(the quince is our symbol for this vision, having grown up with them in our yard)

COLD MAY is a Swedish fashion organization based in Sweden aiming to achieve, what we call, true sustainability: a holistic approach to production and consumption.

Made in Sweden, Produced in EU.

It is here that all our products originate. This is where the initial ideas emerge, are discussed, and sometimes further developed and realized. We draw inspiration from the Swedish design tradition and engineering experience, aspiring to contribute to the future of fashion.

In other words, we offer Swedish design, but with our own distinct interpretation, influenced by global trends, movements, but also local traditions.

Working Conditions. Environmental Legislation. Shorter Transportation.

We work in Europe. Once the initial designs are completed, we enter a close collaboration with our partners in Portugal to finalize the designs and commence production. Together we work in direct contact with the factories in Portugal responsible for manufacturing our products. Through continued dialogue we aim to achieve the quality and standards we stringently require. With the aid of our pattern’s extensive network and deep understanding of the fashion industry in Europe, we are able to manufacture the products which were born from ideas imagined in Sweden.

There are several reasons why we aim to keep our production within the EU. Factories adherence to EU legislation regarding environment, climate, labour- and human rights being the most prominent one. Moreover, transportation needs are minimized as our primary focus is the EU market. We are part of the global movement aiming to redirect the fashion industry away from mass consumption towards a model based on true sustainability.

The factory responsible for manufacturing our products is certified according to the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA), ensuring business ethics regarding working conditions, health, safety, and the environment. The audit has been conducted by an independent auditor, and COLD MAY has reviewed and read the report.

The textiles (including threads) used in the production of our products are approved according to the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 (product class 1), certifying that they meet the highest requirements of OEKO-TEX regarding human health and harmful substances.

Materials

We trust quality to be a cornerstone in achieving true sustainability, the material used will naturally be of primary importance. Our current collection uses lyocell is produced in Portugal. Apart from its incredible feel, lyocell has minimal environmental impact during production. The closed-loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulose fibres that are then woven into the final fabric, allows for up to 99% of the water and chemicals to be reused, significantly higher than in, for example, cotton production. Additionally, the material is biodegradable, making it even more environmentally friendly. In addition, it is of higher quality compared to many other fabrics, making it last longer with proper care.
